PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds — or PUBG as it’s known by fans — is finally available on mobile. The PC, Xbox One, and now Android and iOS smash hit may have lost some ground to Epic Games’ Fortnite in the ‘great battle royale war’, but the sandbox kill-fest reigns supreme on Android sitting in the Play Store top games with millions of downloads.
For those new to the game, the first thing you should know is that PUBG is all about surviving until the bitter end in a 100-person free-for-all or as a team by any means necessary. Yet whether you’re the kind of player that likes to grab the best weapons you can find and go all guns blazing, or you opt for a more stealthy approach, there are some gameplay basics that apply to everyone that enters the battlefield.
In this guide, you’ll find some essential PUBG Mobile tips and tricks that will put you ahead of the pack and help you bag those sweet, sweet chicken dinners.
PUBG Mobile gaming modes
There are an increasing number of ways to play PUBG Mobile, with each update bringing a new approach. While the Classic game remains the same, the Arcade mode has changed in many ways. Here’s a breakdown of the current gaming modes in PUBG Mobile.
Everything here is accessed via the button under the start button – that’s where you configure the game type you’re going to play and how.
Select a different map: From version 10 onwards there are four maps – Erangel, Miramir, Sanhok and Vikendi. You’ll find the option to select the map once you hit the game type button. If you select all, it will randomly pick one for you. Different maps have different terrain, sizes and some exclusive weapons or vehicles.
Make the Red Zone Your Strategic Friend
This isn’t something you’ll be able to do often, but some times the red zone can actually be a friend to you. If you’re inside a building when the bombs start dropping, you can do two things:
- Make use of the noise to cover up your steps and gather any loot lying around inside the building.
- You’ll most likely see some players running away, which makes them easy killings for you. Plus, if you spot a player, you can risk it and use the cover of the bombing noise to flank them without them being able to hear your footsteps over the commotion.
Mute Annoying Team-mates
Unless you’re playing with your friends, the squad mode will often pair you up with people where at least one of them is an annoying prick constantly singing and screaming into their mic. With the latest PUBG Mobile update, you can mute individual team-mates by tapping on the speaker-icon. This will open up a menu with all your team-mates’ names on it, simply tap on the speaker icon next to the team-mate you want to mute and that’s it. Now focus on the game.
